‘Karate Kid’ Ralph Macchio Makes ‘Psycho’ with Biel and Johansson

ALTThis weekend, Hollywood.com spoke to actor Ralph Macchio on the red carpet for the TV Land Awards, where he was on hand to tout his recent stint on Fran Drescher’s Happily Divorced. While his career has never took a downward spiral as so many child stars are prone to falling into (“I’ve always joked that I’m sort of the Anti-E! True Hollywood Story”), Macchio’s stardom has also never hit the peaks he saw back in the ’80s, when he sat at the top of the world with the ever-popular Karate Kid franchise. But one tidbit Macchio failed to mention while discussing his comforting career was his latest role: screenwriter Joe Stefano in Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho.

There’s no word on the size of the role, but Macchio will be in good company — the actor joins Anthony Hopkins, tackling the part of the famed director, Helen Mirren, Scarlet Johansson and Jessica Biel in the true story drama, based on the production of the infamous cinematic thriller. The last decade has seen Macchio pop in various bit roles in TV shows across the genre spectrum, but Making of Psycho has potential to revive the aging actor’s big screen career.

Under the direction of Sacha Gervasi, shooting on Making of Psycho is currently underway. Don’t expect too much waxing on or waxing off from this one.
