Is Keri Russell is single-handedly trying to take over Hollywood? The former Felicity star is currently starring in the box-office thriller Dark Skies, playing the leading lady the new FX hit The Americans, and now the actress has nabbed another new gig. Russell just signed on as the female lead in the upcoming cinematic reboot, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Although it’s not confirmed by the studio, the news was posted on the movie’s official Facebook page so it’s likely an announcement is comming soon. Variety reports that the actress will star opposite Andy Serkis in the sequel to 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Right now there are no specific details regarding Russell’s character — aside from the fact that she’s the female lead — but we do know that there will be an on-set Felicity reunion! Matt Reeves — co-creator of Felicity — is set to direct the ape-tastic revival. Fingers crossed he doesn’t direct his leading lady to cut her hair again!
The film is not set to hit theaters until May 23, 2014, but it will begin filming shortly. In addition to Russell and Serkis, Gary Oldman and Jason Clarke have signed on for the film.
