Lisa Bloom: ‘Harvey Weinstein is remorseful’

Harvey Weinstein is determined to make amends for his inappropriate behavior, according to his powerhouse lawyer Lisa Bloom.

The movie mogul has taken a leave of absence from The Weinstein Company following the publication of a New York Times article depicting the film producer as a sexual harasser. Weinstein issued an apology for his past behavior after the allegations of decades of inappropriate sexual advances broke on Thursday (05Oct17), and Bloom explains she started working with the producer because he sought her advice on making amends.

“(His alleged behavior is) gross,” she tells Good Morning America. “I’m here as his adviser, I’m not defending him in any sexual harassment cases… I’m working with a guy that has been behaving badly over the years, who is genuinely remorseful, who says, ‘I have caused a lot of pain…'”

After the article was published, Bloom denied many of the accusations included, calling them “patently false”. However, she insists she is not attacking Weinstein’s accusers, who include actress Ashley Judd.

“This is not about attacking any of the women, I’m glad they came forward,” she said. “I encourage them to come forward. Harvey has already encouraged me to come forward…”

In the newspaper’s article, Judd claimed that as a young actress Weinstein had invited her to a business meeting at the Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel and asked her to come up to his suite, where he allegedly asked her to give him a massage and watch him shower.

Weinstein has denied her accusations.

He added, “After this supposed incident, which she says was in 1997 while filming Kiss The Girls, I took her to an Academy Award party where we were photographed smiling. She claimed to the Times she never worked with me again. She did two movies with me – Frida, which came out in 2002, and Crossing Over with Harrison Ford, released in 2009.”

Bloom addressed Judd’s accusations during her interview, insisting she encourages women to come forward and “speak their truths” about their alleged experiences with Weinstein.

“I’m not accusing Ashley Judd of lying at all, I’m glad she’s come forward and spoken out her truth,” Bloom added. “I’m not accusing anyone of lying. I’m not going to do that. What Harvey Weinstein has done is wrong, he has caused pain, he said that… He is ashamed of his behavior.”
