Kevin and Dan Hageman just got themselves a big ol’ box of explosives. And hopefully, they don’t blow their hair off.
The siblings just sold their pitch to Warner Brothers for a new franchise — set in the fictional world of the Looney Tunes’ ACME warehouse. For those who can’t recall their childhood Saturday morning cartoons, ACME provided everything anyone needed in the Tunes’ universe — from explosives to rollerblades to anvils. The company gained real fame from Wile E. Coyote’s use of their products to unsuccessfully track down the Road Runner. (Beep beep!)
Currently, the plan is to create a live-action CG hybrid featuring many wild and crazy devices that will probably explode when they’re not supposed to. So, we’re assuming and hoping the movie will be similar to 1988’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
This is all really exciting because I wondered for years how the ACME warehouse worked and why Wile E. Coyote never changed his supplier if rockets kept blowing up in his face. Plus, it’s a new spin on a very, very old concept, which is really nice to see from Hollywood — a.k.a. land of the remakes. But there’s one major kicker with this news: the project will not feature ANY Looney Tunes characters.
Yeah, for real. There will be no Elmer Fudd. No Daffy Duck. No Bugs Bunny. It’s odd, yes, but it appears to be a done deal and we will see ACME minus Looney Tunes. Let’s just hope it’s a little more uplifting than Garfield Minus Garfield. Eesh.
