11408057.jpgIn what’s sure to fill fanboys with a complicated mixture of giddiness, delight, anticipation and disappointment, the Los Angeles Times today revealed a key plot point in The Dark Knight Rises, the uber-anticipated final chapter in Christopher Nolan‘s blockbuster Batman trilogy. The newspaper was at least kind enough to attach a “spoiler warning” to its story, a profile of TDKR castmember Anne Hathaway, which will appear in print in its upcoming 2012 “Film Sneaks” issue. We’ll go ahead and add one more before moving forward with the Times’ description of what is no doubt one of the more important scenes in the film:

Aaaaaand here we go:

“Gotham City is a war zone. A ruthless madman named Bane has ripped away any sense of security and the citizens, haggard and clutching suitcases with refugee anxiety, sit behind barbed wire waiting to see what will blow up next. A hooded prisoner is dragged in – it’s Bruce Wayne, one of Gotham’s most famous faces – but the eyes of the crowd go instead to the woman in black standing at the top of the staircase.

‘Sorry to spoil things, boys, but Bane needs these guys himself,’ says sultry Selina Kyle, played here by actress Anne Hathaway, navigating the steps with stiletto heels that, on closer inspection, turn out to have serrated edges capable of leaving nasty claw marks in a fight. She also wears high-tech goggles that, when not in use, flip up and resemble feline ears.”

The article goes on to reveal that the film is set eight years after the events of 2008’s The Dark Knight and that Hathaway is keen on doing crossword puzzles between scenes — thus officially discrediting the long-circulating rumor that the actress was partial to Sudoku.
