Singer. Actress. Author. Entrepreneur. Screenwriter. Director. Producer. The multi-talented entertainer Madonna may be trying to prove her chops in the latter categories with her next movie project. According to Indiewire, Madonna has acquired the rights to Andrew Sean Greer’s latest novel, The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells.
In an interview with Litseen, Greer revealed that he received a phone call from Madonna last week. He said that she “read the book and loved it so much she called me up personally to talk about it … She totally got it. There were a couple other people interested and they sort of all made a deal together, and she’s optioned the rights to it. We’ll see what happens. But it’s fun because it was Madonna.”
It’s unclear if Madonna will be directing or producing the movie. Her first directing attempts were pretty abysmal; both W.E. and Filth and Wisdom were critical and commercial failures. But maybe The Impossible Lives of Greta Wells will provide the right opportunity for the Material Girl to show us what she’s really capable of. Stay tuned.
