Malcolm X killer paroled

Hagan was freed from the minimum-security Lincoln Correctional Facility in New York on Tuesday morning (27Apr10).

Ironically, the jail is located at the intersection of West 110th Street and Malcolm X Boulevard.

Hagan has been involved in a full-time work-release program since 1992, which allowed him to live at home with his family in Brooklyn five days a week.

Now he’s a free man, Hagan hopes to become a substance abuse counsellor.

In his parole board hearing last month (Mar10), the convicted killer told lawmakers he had “deep regrets” about his participation in the death of civil rights leader Malcolm X.

Hagan had been sentenced to 20 years to life imprisonment after being found guilty at trial in 1966.
