While Kevin Smith‘s follow-up to Clerks didn’t go over well with critics, the 90s twentysomething comedy Mallrats carved out a niche for itself thanks to its irreverent humor, slacker characters, and star-studded cast. With the wave of nostalgia for all things 90s recently, sequel-happy Kevin Smith couldn’t help but revisit the film.

Word of Mallrats 2 has been circulating for over a decade, according to a tweet from Smith himself, it’s finally happening. The film has a cast in place, a mall to shoot at, and production schedule that will being in January.

Here’s the tweet that confirmed it, featuring a happy and svelte Kevin Smith:

Though the first Mallrats was set in New Jersey, the mall they used for filming was actually in Minnesota. It’s a safe bet with Smith’s strong Jersey roots, and a returning cast that suggests some continuity, it looks like Pennsylvania will be standing in for Jersey this time around. Fair enough. If you’ve seen one mall, you’ve seen them all.

As for the cast, virtually all the players are returning from the original, including *deep breath*  Jason Lee, Jeremy London, Ethan Suplee, Shannen Doherty, Michael Rooker, Renee Humphrey, Joey Lauren Adams, Sven-Ole Thorsen, Scott Mosier, Bryan Johnson, Walt Flanagan, Brian O’Halloran, Claire Forlani, Stan Lee, Jason Mewes, and, of course, Kevin Smith as Silent Bob.

The only name conspicuously absent from that list is Ben Affleck, who played Jeremy London’s cartoonishly evil romantic rival. Ben’s got a more crowded film schedule than most on the list, so his involvement will probably be a game-time decision.

Fans can expect the film to hit theaters some time in 2017.
