‘Meet the Spartans’: Q&A with Carmen Electra

Life couldn’t be sweeter for Hollywood hottie Carmen Electra. Not only is her latest spoof comedy Meet the Spartans coming to DVD June 3, but the model-turned-actress recently got engaged to KoRn guitarist Rob Patterson.

Hollywood.com met up with Electra, 36, at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas to talk about her new movie, upcoming nuptials and more.

Hollywood.com: You’ve become a regular in these spoof movies, haven’t you?
Carmen Electra:
That’s right. I was in the very first Scary Movie. I think the guys were writers on the movie and they hired me for Date Movie and Epic Movie, now Meet the Spartans which is coming out on DVD June 3. I’ll be heading off to New Orleans to work with them again. I love it. They’re great guys and I really get to relax around them and know that they’re going to take care of me.

HW: What is it about this genre? Is it your type of humor?
CE:
You know, I’ve always kind of liked toilet humor, to be honest. I grew up watching Airplane and loved spoofs and in your face, kind of out there comedies. I guess after Scary Movie, it sort of caught on. Scary Movie did so well, no one really knew back then how well it would actually do and it just really sparked something. I love it. I love being a part of them. I love making fun of myself in the process and showing people that I have a good sense of humor. [PAGEBREAK]

HW: When you do the spoof, do you watch the original?
CE:
Yes, I definitely watch the original just to get the idea of what it looks like. Obviously, they do all of that work. That’s more of them and being a spoof, you can kind of get away with not being too true to one certain thing. But I did watch the movie 300 and thought it was funny that Queen Margot, in our version, wears stripper heels. I thought that was really fun.

HW: It’s also coming out on Blu Ray. Are you ready to see yourself in high definition?
CE:
I don’t know. I’m probably the most critical over myself so seeing yourself in high definition, you can probably see everything. But yeah, I guess I have to get ready for it.

HW: People look so much more real in HD.
CE:
I prefer a little bit less real I think. I mean, so much has been in HD but I kind of really don’t like to watch myself. Usually I do if I have to approve something, but I just don’t like to obsess too much. When you’re looking at yourself, you start picking out the things that you don’t like or your flaws. I just really try not to focus on that stuff. I don’t want to become obsessed with picking on myself all the time. [PAGEBREAK]

HW: Rumor has it you just got engaged. Congratulations! How did Rob propose?
CE:
Well, I need to keep some things a secret. I exposed everything [last time] but I think after doing a reality show based on marriage, this time I might keep a few secrets.

HW: You can have that one, but what made you feel you could take the leap again?
CE:
I mean, I really can’t say that I feel like I, at this point, can take the leap again to be honest with you. It’s such a big life changing experience. I don’t know, I feel like I just really want to take things slow and not really rush into marriage, just enjoy being engaged. I guess to me it would be more ideal to have a spiritual ceremony without paperwork and the whole [hoopla], you know. So much more goes into a wedding than people realize unless they’ve been down that road, but it’s expensive and I don’t know. I should look into that more. I need to be open. I need to be open to it. PAGEBREAK]

HW: Do you have any plans yet?
CE:
Nope. No plans. Just takin’ it slow. No rush. It’s funny, but literally the next day I was getting calls from everyone because they heard all these rumors and thought I’d already gotten married or I was getting married the next day or that I was doing another reality show or that I’m pregnant. The list of rumors just went on and on and on. I just want to take it slow. I’m not in any hurry to get married again. It could be 10 years. I’m going to enjoy it.

HW: Well, you never know with celebrities …
CE:
That’s true, anything can happen with anybody. I think that when you’re a celebrity, it’s just a little bit more intense.

HW: And you’ve done the big wedding before.
CE:
I’ve done the Vegas experience and actually a real planned out wedding. I have no regrets. I mean, I’ve learned so much from those experience which are both completely different. Dave [Navarro] and I are still really, really close but I really feel like I don’t need to rush into anything.[PAGEBREAK]

HW: It gives other divorcees hope that they can find love again.
CE:
Well, if you look at it, it doesn’t have to be a negative thing. It really doesn’t. Some people stay in situations that aren’t right for them and never get a chance to have all these different life experiences. So it’s really I think as beautiful as the merging, I think separating is just as beautiful in a way.

HW: Do husbands around the world thank you for your stripper exercise videos?
CE:
They do and it’s really cool. It’s great that I’ve been able to connect with guys in that way and actually connect with women. A lot of girls say they really like to do the workout. Other women have said they’ve had girl parties where they do the workout and so it’s really cool.   [PAGEBREAK]
