BEVERLY HILLS, Nov. 2, 2000 – Wednesday evening if you were standing outside the Samuel Goldwyn Theater you may of expected to see a 21-gun salute, as Naval officers and seamen lined the red carpet to support the Los Angeles premiere of “Men Of Honor.”

The film stars Oscar winners, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Robert De Niro, along with Charlize Theron, Hal Holbrook, Michael Rapaport and Aunjanue Ellis.

It’s the story of real-life Navy diver Carl Brashear, played by Gooding, who because of his tenacity and indomitable spirit, overcomes adversity, exclusion and resistance in the 1960s, to become the first African-American master diver, despite a crippling injury.
