Michael Fassbender Will Make You Swoon in ‘The Mountain Between Us’

ALTThere is not shortage of Michael Fassbender in Hollywood. Thankfully.

Variety reports that Fassbender has been recruited by Fox to star in the romantic drama The Mountain Between Us. The studio is keen on keeping the actor in the family; Fassbender previously appeared in Fox’s superhero prequel X-Men: First Class and this summer’s Alien spin-off Prometheus. Now the actor will take on the adaptation of the Charles Martin novel of the same name, which follows two strangers who survive a plane crash and subsequently fall in love while enduring the harsh conditions of Colorodo’s forests. Safe to assume they’ll be using each other for heat?

The film will be directed by Gerardo Naranjo, who helmed last year’s exhilarating Mexican drama Miss Bala. Naranjo’s intense portrait of the Mexican drug trade was a gritty, energetic and provocative vision. Now Fox will help him make his Hollywood debut with Mountain.

Although he was overlooked by the Oscars for his knockout performance in 2011’s Shame, Fassbender has followed up the role with a handful of buzzy performances that should (eventually) earn him the gold he deserves, including Ridley Scott’s The Counselor, a reteam with Shame director Steve McQueen with Twelve Years a Slave and now The Mountain Between Us. 2011 was certainly the year of Fassbender, but the actor doesn’t appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
