Miles Ahead | 2002
As the story unfolds Miles' complex demeanor begins to breakdown into the very real sense of feeling trapped with no answers in sight. Miles' girlfriend is going away to attend an out-of-state university, and his best friend is leaving home in search of adventure on the open road. Miles's distant relationship with his father adds another layer of isolation as he struggles to find his voice as his hometown continues to constrict around him. His best friend Taylor, the only one who has any kind of power of persuasion over Miles, convinces him to take a trip for the weekend in honor of their last summer together and to test the car they've spent the last few months fixing up. A fatal accident follows, instantly killing Taylor, and leaving Miles in shock as he wanders back to his state of withdrawal. As the fall begins Miles is left all alone as he begins the insipid repetition of riding to school with his Dad and attending college freshman classes. Torn in all directions and wary of the future, Miles keeps his thoughts and feelings to himself. He slowly begins to overcome his need for comfort to discover the infinite possibilities the world has to offer. With a duffle bag over his shoulder and many directions ahead of him, Miles makes amends with the town he has always lived in and sets out on the road in hopes of finding the answers he's looking for.
