Misconceptions | 2010
Miranda Bliss and her sister Lucy Dexter run 'Fishes and Loaves Christian Catering' in rural Coover Corners, Georgia. One night, Miranda has a vision from God, telling her to be a surrogate mom and have a baby for a married gay male couple from Boston, whom she sees in a late night TV documentary. Miranda e-mails the couple, offering her uterus for this God-directed purpose, and flies off to Boston to meet them, concealing her mission from her husband Parker, the handyman at their church who is also a fervent anti-gay marriage activist. In Boston, Miranda meets the couple, Sandy and Terry-Price-Owens. Sandy is a nice Jewish doctor, and Terry is an outspoken African-American dance choreographer and costume designer. At the fertility clinic, Miranda is more than a little freaked out upon learning that the two men have 'mixed and matched' their sperm. Back home, baking cross-shaped cookies with sister Lucy, Miranda nervously awaits the arrival of the embryo, created with the gay men's sperm and an egg from their lesbian friend in Boston. After Miranda becomes pregnant with the embryo, all Hell breaks loose when papa Terry comes down from Boston, uninvited, intending to remain for the duration and micro-manage Miranda's pregnancy. And Miranda's is not the only unusual pregnancy in this family.
