Monday Daily Box Office Rally
First Place – Paramount’s ‘Paranormal Activity 2’ – A bigger-than-expected weekend debut of $40.7 million allowed this horror franchise to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump. A solid Monday gross of $2.4 brings the domestic total after just four days to $43.1 million. The IMAX experience contributed a strong $2.5 million to the opening weekend total.
Second Place – Paramount’s ‘Jackass 3D’ – The ‘Jackass’ crew continues to cough up strong numbers with a Monday gross of $1.8 million. The film has now earned $88.6 million after just eleven days of release.
Third Place – Summit’s ‘Red’ – Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren and Richard Dreyfus round out a very diverse, though somewhat unconventional action film cast and earn $1.1 million on Monday. The film has now earned $44.6 million after eleven days in release and this past weekend had a very small 31% drop.
