Time travel: it’s the ultimate fantasy. Getting to go back into the past or propelling yourself into the future is a power everyone dreams about having. These movies and TV shows fulfill our time traveling wishes, and usually boggle our minds in the process. But we keep coming back for more – just ask Rachel McAdams, who’s pretty much an expert on the time travel romance genre.
1. Lost
This show used the time travel to dizzying effect. We couldn’t explain it to you if we tried, BUT the intricate plot made it an instant mind-blowing classic.
2. Dr. Who
Come on, we all wish we could time travel with the help of a Tardis. Best time machine ever.
3. Outlander
If we could go back in time and be guaranteed to find a man like Jamie, we’d gladly leave behind 21st century amenities.
4. Time Traveler’s Wife
Ok, so this movie also presented the challenges and pitfalls of being in love with a man who can involuntarily time travel, but it’s also what made their love so strong and unique.
5. About Time
Rachel McAdams just can’t stop falling for time travelers. We’d fall for Domnhall Gleeson, too.
6. Tru Calling
Remember this show? Talk about using your time traveling powers for good. Dead people asked Eliza Dushku for help and she’d be launched back in time to save their lives.
7. Donnie Darko
We still don’t understand what happened in this movie. We know it involved a scary bunny, Jake Gyllenhaal and time travel — and we loved every head-trippy minute of it.
8. Safety Not Guaranteed
You never actually see the time travel, but Mark Duplass plays a guy who’s building a time machine to go back to his past and change things. Aubrey Plaza joins him for the ride.
9. Midnight in Paris
How cool would it be to go back and meet famous historical figures?!
10. Groundhog Day
Haven’t we all wished we could relive a day in our lives to get it right?
11. 13 Going on 30
So at this point we’d never wish to be older, but as a teen, a glimpse into adulthood might have proved helpful.
12. Back to the Future
A classic. No one ever looked at a DeLorean the same way again.
