Car racing drama Need For Speed has overtaken its rivals to land in pole position on the U.K. box office chart on its opening weekend (14-16Mar14). The movie, starring Aaron Paul and Dominic Cooper, scooped $3.3 million (£2.1 million) in ticket sales, outstripping its nearest rival The Grand Budapest Hotel, which landed in second place with $2.1 million (£1.3 million).
Last weekend’s (07-09Mar14) chart-topper 300: Rise of an Empire slipped to third place, with takings of $2 million (£1.2 million), and the top five was rounded out by kids’ favourite The Lego Movie in fourth with $1.6 million (£1 million) and plane drama Non-Stop in fifth, with $1.5 million (£937,000).
