Neighbors beats The Amazing Spider-Man 2 at the U.S. box office

Raucous comedy Neighbors has blasted past The Amazing Spider-Man 2 to claim the number one spot at the U.S. box office.

The movie, which opened on Friday (09May14) and stars Seth Rogen, Zac Efron and Rose Byrne, grossed $51 million (GBP31.9 million) over the weekend, while the superhero sequel film comes in second with a $37.2 million (GBP23.25 million) haul.

Rounding out the top five are The Other Woman with $9.6 million (GBP6 million), Heaven is Real, which earns $7 million (GBP4.4 million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier $5.6 million (GBP3.5 million).
