New ‘X-Men: First Class’ Trailer!

I’ve been accused of flip-flopping on X-Men: First Class, but that’s not entirely true. I was incredibly excited after the teaser trailer hit the internet earlier this year; it was those god-awful posters that silenced my enthusiasm. Still, the promotional materials are not made by the filmmakers so it shouldn’t have had that negative an effect on my opinion toward the movie. And it hasn’t; First Class is still, IMHO, one of the more interesting films hitting theaters this summer thanks to its retro-aesthetic and storyline. A reboot of the franchise, essentially, it promises a bold new beginning for the mutants we love and a great introduction for a few we haven’t seen yet.

And by the look of this new trailer for the film, it’s going to be nothing short of epic. We get a little more story reveal this time around as it appears that, in this timeline, the Cuban Missile Crisis was a mutant manipulation that must be thwarted by the X-Men. There’s also a bit of time spent on showing us which young heroes will cozy up to one another (Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence sitting in the Blackbird…K.I.S.S.I…) and at what point Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr go from best friends to bitter enemies. All in all, impressive work from director Matthew Vaughn and co. Here we come, June 3rd…
