Oh, Baby, Baby! Celebs and Their Offspring

There must be something in the water. Not since Lucille Ball’s real-life pregnancy on I Love Lucy has baby fever taken such a hold on the celeb world. TomKat, Brangelina–it seems everyone is getting in on the act. Hollywood.com decided to take a moment to reflect on this recent baby boom–from the wacky names they pick to our predictions on how these superstar progeny might turn out.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Angelina JolieBaby Naming 101: Shiloh Nouvel Jolie Pitt. Siblings: brother Maddox, 4, and sister Zahara, 1.
Born: May 27, 2006
Birth History: We all know the story by now: Brangelina meet on the set of their film Mr. & Mrs. Smith and form a “bond” (however, not a romantic one, they both claim); Pitt and then wife Jennifer Aniston file for divorce; Brangelina skirt around the reported love affair but finally make it official while being photographed together, frolicking with the kids on an African beach; Pitt adopts Jolie’s already adopted kids; they get pregnant with their own love child. And finally, they relocate to Namibia to await the baby’s birth. Can’t wait to hear the stories on how that goes.
Will Grow Up to Be…? A politician or an international ambassador to Africa or something of that nature. What else?

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

Tom Cruise and Katie HolmesBaby Naming 101: Suri (girl), a derivation of “princess” in Hebrew; also known as TomKitten.
Born: April 18, 2006
Birth History: Another story we are all too familiar with: TomKat met, fell in love, jumped on couches, cooed and kissed in public a lot, got engaged on top of the Eiffel Tower and then boom! Katie’s pregnant–all in about the span of about six months. Why wait? Then after months of news articles about buying sonogram machines and silent births, the little angel came into the world. Finally, we can get some rest. Or can we? The latest scuttlebutt is Holmes may be suffering from post-partum depression. Interesting twist (see below).
Will Grow Up to Be…? Actress/producer/director/writer–pick a hyphenate. Of course, Daddy will be there, helping Suri every step of the way.

Brooke Shields and Chris Henchy

Brooke ShieldsBaby Naming 101: Grier (girl). Sibling: sister Rowan, 3.
Born: April 18, 2006
Birth History: After Rowan was born, Shields went through some serious post-partum depression herself, which she combated with anti-depressants. She eventually went public with her story by writing a book–and got slapped on the wrists by Tom Cruise, who criticized her for using drugs. A big brouhaha ensued, words were exchanged and yada, yada, yada–Shields has her second child the same day as Katie Holmes. Ironic, huh? Of course, all is now forgiven with Cruise (Shields wishes them well), and the actress says she’s never been happier with her two beautiful little girls.
Will Grow Up to Be…? A fashion designer. Nothing will come between Grier and her designer jeans.

Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin

Gwyneth PaltrowBaby Naming 101: Moses (boy). Sibling: sister Apple, 2.
Born: April 8, 2006
Birth History: Paltrow’s first pregnancy was fairly well documented: She was just newly pregnant when she made the film Proof; she had a tough time keeping to her vegan diet; she was in labor for 70 hours. Of course, the name also caused a few arched eyebrows. Paltrow explained it was because apples are whole, sweet and crisp. Riiight. Then Moses’ impending arrival was confirmed when Paltrow made an appearance at the Golden Globes earlier this year, looking all glowing and plump. But again with the name. This time, Moses comes from a song Martin, leader singer of Coldplay, wrote for Paltrow. Whatever.
Will Grow Up to Be…? A musician, no question–maybe even a drummer, especially with a name like Moses. Apple will probably follow in her mother’s and grandmother’s (Blythe Danner) acting footsteps. She, however, might change her name.

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner

Jennifer GarnerBaby Naming 101: Violet (girl)
Born: Dec. 1, 2005
Birth History: Ben and Jen, part two. After his rather public engagement and break up with Jennifer LopezAffleck needed a little comfort and turned to his sweet pal Garner, who he met while making Daredevil. She had ended a four year marriage to Felicity star Scott Foley just a year before, so the two finally consummated their simmering passion. In fact, they had to have a shotgun wedding since Garner was already expecting little Violet when they got hitched. Oh well.
Will Grow Up to Be…? A homemaker. Violet will decide she’s just as happy being married with kids as being part of the wacky entertainment industry. Either that, or she’ll be a movie mogul.

Britney Spears and Kevin Federline

Britney Spears and Kevin FederlineBaby Naming 101: Sean Preston (boy)
Born: Sept. 14, 2005
Birth History: Pop princess Spears headed down a slippery slope when she got married to hick Federline (who left actress Shar Jackson, at the time, seven months pregnant), stopped making music and got knocked up in short order. Now, her parenting skills–or lack thereof, according to the tabloids–are unfortunately being scrutinized AND she’s pregnant again. Oy. Time for a little image control, Brit.
Will Grow Up to Be…? A doctor. Just cause, you know, Sean will want to do something COMPLETELY different from his parents.

Still to arrive: It looks like Jennifer Lopez is rumored to be preggers as well. They just keep a-comin’.
