New ‘Oldboy’ Looks Like Old ‘Oldboy’ in Spike Lee’s Trailer

No trickier an endeavor does plague the human race than the remaking of a beloved film. Do you stay so faithful as to practically reproduce the old favorite entirely? Or veer so far that you manipulate the very roots of the original material? Those are your options. Happy mediums are not in play, here.

So to which side will Spike Lee’s Oldboy fall? The first trailer for the Josh Brolin starrer seems to shadow its predecessor pretty closely, but such a distinct visionary as Lee isn’t likely to avoid infusing his own deliberate flavor into any film project, even one so far out of his usual wheelhouse.
