On with the show!

Confounding many analysts who predicted a major downturn at the movie box office following the cataclysmic events in New York, an analysis of figures from ACNielsen EDI reveals that more New Yorkers headed for the theaters on Wednesday, the day after the attack than on Monday, the day before it.

“That is a little unusual [to have a bigger Wednesday than a Monday],” ACNielsen EDI president Tom Borys told today’s New York Daily News. “It shows how much people depend on movies to get away.” On the other hand, the Broadway box office has been hit hard, as the count of tourists arriving in the city has fallen to a trickle. Some producers have indicated that they will shut down by next week, if deals can be struck with various unions.
