Once is not enough for Broadway

Instead, the show will debut off-Broadway at the New York Theater Workshop in November (11), according to a new report in the New York Times.

Producer John Hart tells the publication that director John Tiffany made the decision not to “rush it to Broadway”.

He says, “Mr. Tiffany had commitments this year at his artistic home, the National Theater of Scotland, and also wanted to continue refining the musical.

“I don’t think there’s any fixing to do, nothing specific, but we want to take our time and put it before audiences and critics at the New York Theater Workshop to get a clear sense of what we have.”

The musical, featuring words and lyrics written by the film’s stars Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, recently debuted in Massachusetts.

Hansard and Irglova, who won an Oscar for Best Song (Falling Slowly), are not expected to appear onstage in the musical.
