Beasts of the Southern Wild Oscar Nomination

Just when we think we’ve got the Oscars figured out, they throw us a curveball (or two).

Seth MacFarlane and Emma Stone announced the nominations for the 2013 Oscars Thursday morning, and while most critics saw Lincoln as the frontrunner, smaller-grossing films Beasts of the Southern Wild and Silver Linings Playbook swept in with heaps os surprise nominations. On the reverse, supposed shoe-ins like Zero Dark Thirty director Kathryn Bigelow and Argo director Ben Affleck were left nomination-less.
