’20th Century Women’ debuted during the 2016 New York Film Festival to raving reviews, and the hype train isn’t stopping till the Oscars
The film is written and directed by Mike Mills and follows Dorthea Fields (Annette Bening) in Sacramento in the 1970’s. She’s a single mother whose finding trouble raising her son Jamie (newcomer and breakout star Lucas Zumann). The world was going through a time of culture and rebellion, and it was tough enough being a single mom raising a boy, so she gets the help of those around Jamie. Abbie (Greta Gerwig) a free-spirited punk rock artist who lives with the Fields, and Julie (Elle Fanning) the pretty and provocative neighbor. The film has been getting Academy Award buzz and currently sits at a 94% Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
