Pain & Gain tops the U.S. box office

Mark Wahlberg’s Pain & Gain has topped the U.S. box office after taking $20 million (£12.5 million) in ticket sales over the weekend (26-28Apr13). The movie, based on a true crime spree in Florida, holds off competition from last week’s number one, Tom Cruise’s Oblivion, which raked in $17.4 million (£10.9 million).
Jackie Robinson sports biopic 42 comes in third with earnings of $10.1 million (£6.3 million), while The Big Wedding, which features an ensemble cast of Oscar winners like Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton and Robin Williams, enters at four ($7.5 million/£4.7 million).
Animated family film The Croods rounds out the top five ($6.5 million/£4 million).
