Paperback Hero | 1972
Rick is a big star in his little town on the Canadian prairie, as the stand-out player on his semi-pro hockey team. Although he has a routine job in a hardware store, his hockey skills have made him a local hero who never has to pay for a thing if a fan is around. He also has his pick of women, even though he has a loyal girlfriend who holds out hope that he will settle down with her eventually. But things take a turn for Rick when he loses his job and then gets word that the team is no longer affordable to its owners. When team's final game ends in a brawl and he is rejected by the daughter of the manager, Rick makes a stand in order to prove himself.
