‘Paranormal Activity 2′ on verge of $50M!

Thursday Daily Box Office Rally

088091H1.jpgFirst Place – Paramount’s ‘Paranormal Activity 2′ – A bigger-than-expected weekend debut of $40.7 million allowed this horror franchise to avoid the dreaded sophomore slump.  A solid Thursday gross of $1.98 brings the domestic total after just seven days to $49.1 million.  The IMAX experience contributed a strong $2.5 million to the opening weekend total.

Second Place – Paramount’s ‘Jackass 3D’ – The ‘Jackass’ crew continues to cough up strong numbers with a Thursday gross of $1.36 million. The film has now earned $93.1 million after just fourteen days of release and should cross the $100 million mark this weekend.  Johnny Knoxville and company have elevated gross-out humor to high art and now to high finance!

Third Place – Summit’s ‘Red’ – Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Mary-Louise Parker, Helen Mirren and Richard Dreyfus round out a very diverse, though somewhat unconventional action film cast and earn $1.12 million on Thursday. The film has now earned $48.1 million after fourteen days in release and this past weekend had a very small 31% drop.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, President of Hollywood.com Box Office Paul Dergarabedian loves movies of course, but has a true passion for music, art, photography and architecture. Stanley Kubrick is a God even though like Orson Welles’ 'Citizen Kane, his '2001: A Space Odyssey' is overrated but still brilliant! Little known fact: Paul is a certified car fanatic and was a National Collegiate Driving Champion in the late 80's!
