Vesuvius always sounded like a Lady’s Day Spa to me and now you know that little fact about me.
Anyway, that is tangentially related to the news that Paul W.S. Anderson is bringing to the screen the story of Pompeii, the ancient Roman city that fell under the ashes of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. And like Titanic before it (the comparison has been made, far and wide), he’ll frame the tragedy around a love story. This time it’ll be a slave who is in love with his master’s daughter. But as he is being shipped away after watching his love get married off to an evil Senator, the mountain volcano goes BOOM and he goes rushing back to save them. Now, much like James Cameron before him, Anderson is mostly known for big action movies. Could this turn into a Titanic size hit for the director? Will he hire his wife Milla Jovovich? Will the two lovers die in an embrace as the ash preserves their love forever? Only time will tell. Well, that, and the movie when it comes out in 2013 or so.
