Penelope Cruz has officially joined the ridiculously star-studded cast of Ridley Scott‘s next project, the 2013 thriller The Counselor.
As was long rumored, Cruz replaces the once-attached Angelina Jolie, joining Jolie’s soon-to-be husband, Brad Pitt, as well as her own hubby, Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz, and Michael Fassbender — who is fresh off a successful collaboration with Scott in last weekend’s sci-fi Alien prequel Prometheus.
The Counselor, about an attorney who makes the mistake of getting involved in the drug-trafficking trade, marks the feature-screenplay debut of acclaimed author Cormac McCarthy, and is described, fittingly enough, by Deadline as “No Country for Old Men on steroids.”
Meanwhile, the Cruz news doesn’t end there: The actress, who will be seen in the soon-to-be-released Woody Allen rom-com To Rome with Love, is collaborating yet again with Spanish writer-director Pedro Almodovar on his movie Los Amantes Pasajeros (The Brief Lovers). It will mark their fifth time working together.
