The frequently in-the-news live-action remake of Akira has hit a snag, er, snags, and production has been shut down … potentially for good.
The movie, whose budget has been trimmed from an insane $230 million to a still-high $90 million, is reportedly facing scrutiny from the studio, Warner Bros. over its cost, casting and script. If the kinks aren’t ironed out soon, the movie could be axed altogether.
Tron: Legacy star Garrett Hedlund is the only big-name cast member officially attached to the update of the 1980s Japanese manga series, which was due for release sometime next year.
