Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody was the most streamed 1970s song in 2018

Queen’s iconic song Bohemian Rhapsody was the most popular 1970s song on streaming services last year (18), thanks to the release of the band’s biopic of the same name.
Officials at the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) published a report on Thursday (11Apr19) detailing what songs were streamed the most by the British public in 2018, and while songs from 2017 and 2018 claimed the top spots on the year-end chart, 57 per cent of streams were actually from catalogue songs – tracks released in or before 2016.
The report proved that the release of Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, which won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Drama and scored Rami Malek an Oscar for his portrayal of late frontman Freddie Mercury, gave the band a huge streaming boost.
Their 1975 operatic epic Bohemian Rhapsody came top of the ’70s chart with 29.8 million streams. ELO’s Mr. Blue Sky came in second for that decade, followed by Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now.
The most popular tracks from the ’80s were Last Christmas by Wham! and Africa by Toto, while top ’90s tracks were Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You and Wonderwall by Oasis and noughties track was Mr. Brightside by The Killers.
The most streamed 2018 song was God’s Plan by Drake, and 2017 song was This Is Me by The Greatest Showman cast.
