There are only so many times in an actress’ career that she can play the female love interest of a man with magic time-traveling powers. Like once. But with her starring role in The Time Traveler’s Wife and upcoming movie About Time, Rachel McAdams is proving otherwise.
In About Time, McAdams plays Mary, a college student who falls in love with a ginger Brit named Tim (Domhnall Gleeson). On his 21st birthday, Tim learns that the men in his family have the ability to travel through time, and from there it’s history. Or is it future?
This week, Universal Pictures released the newest trailer for the Richard Curtis-directed romantic comedy. In the trailer, we learn a little bit more about Tim’s time-traveling abilities, like that fact that he can’t “kill Hitler or shag Helen of Troy.” He does, however, have the opportunity to go back and try to fix his most epic mess-ups and humilitating moments, like his hilarious display of word vomit upon meeting Mary’s parents.
We have high hopes that this new romantic comedy will be better than the disappointingly melodramatic Time Traveler’s Wife. But if it isn’t, will Rachel McAdams try her hand at yet another time travel flick? Maybe a remake of Back to the Future? Nahh, we seriously doubt she’s been typecast that much.
About Time hits theaters on Sept. 6 in the U.K. and Nov. 1 in the States.
