Though many of our favorite films come from the minds of sensationally gifted authors and screenwriters, some of the best stories are too magical to be made up. Here are 8 real-life stories that are being made into movies this year.
I Saw The Light - March 25, 2016
Though we may have grown accustomed to seeing the British delight Tom Hiddleston in the Marvel Universe, the actor has long since proven he can play just about anyone. With his forthcoming film, I Saw the Light, Hiddleston is stepping into the shoes of legendary country singer, Hank Williams. The biopic is based on the book Hank Williams: The Biography by Colin Escott and will follow Williams' rise to fame, his relationship with his first wife Audrey Sheppard Williams (Elizabeth Olsen) as well as his sudden death at the age of 29. Check out the trailer here.
Genius - June 10, 2016
When we think of literary masterpieces, we certainly don't think abut the editor behind the work. However, the upcoming biopic Genius is going to change all of that. Based on the book, Max Perkins: Editor of Genius by A. Scott Berg, the film will follow Colin Firth as Max Perkins and his relationship and eventual falling out with author Thomas Wolfe (Jude Law). We don't have a trailer yet, but check out a clip from the film here.
Free State Of Jones - June 24, 2016
Despite what the history books may say, not all Southerners were willing to succeed from the nation during the Civil War. Matthew McConaughey will star in Free State of Jones as the infamous Newton Knight, a Mississippi planter during the 19th century who famously opposed the war. Forced to join the Confederate Army for fear of being branded a trader, Knight eventually deserted his post and banned together with other farmers across the state of Mississippi in order to form a rebellion against the Confederacy. Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Keri Russell will also be starring in this American Civil War drama. Watch the trailer here.

The Founder - August 5, 2016
Nearly everyone on the globe has heard of McDonald's. Seriously, we vividly remember the year McFlurrys were introduced. However, not everyone knows the story behind the iconic fast food restaurant, much less the man who started it all. Michael Keaton will be starring as Ray Kroc, the man behind McDonald's. The Founder will chronicle salesman Kroc and his business relationship with brothers Mac and Dick McDonald. Though the trio actually started the burger joint during the 1950s, by 1961 Kroc took control of the company, buying it for a measly $2.7 million. There is no trailer for the film yet, but it is set to hit theaters in August.
Sully - September 9, 2016
We bet you recall what you were doing on January 15, 2009, when it was announced that Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger safely landed US Airways Flight 1549 in New York's Hudson River after a flock of geese compromised the planes' structure. From that day forward, Captain Sully has been labeled an American Hero, so naturally he is getting his own biopic. Directed by the revered Clint Eastwood, Sully will star Academy Award winner Tom Hanks in the lead role. Though there is no trailer for the film yet, it is set to be released in September.

Masterminds - September 30, 2016
Sometimes the best stories are the ones that seem way too far-fetched to be real. As is the case with the upcoming, Zach Galifianakis comedy Masterminds. The film, which is set in 1997, follows Galifianakis's character David Ghantt, an armored truck driver who (at the time) pulled off the second-largest bank robbery in history. Though Ghantt and his crew manage to snag $17 million, double-crossing among themselves and excessively spending the cash got them caught in the end. Comedian powerhouses Kristen Wiig, Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis, and Kate McKinnon will also be starring in Masterminds. Check out the hilarious trailer here.
