Zootopia is Disney‘s latest film and it’s a pleasant take on a world full of animals and no humans. Zootopia is a mammal metropolis where various animals, big and small, live and thrive. When Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) becomes the first rabbit to join the police force, she quickly learns how tough it is to enforce the law. Determined to prove herself, Judy jumps at the opportunity to solve a mysterious case. Unfortunately, that means working with Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman), a wily fox who makes her job even harder. Zootopia has been highly anticipated and it does not disappoint; it’s coverage of many social issues and colorful landscape make if one of the greatest Disney films we’ve seen in years.
1. The banter between Judy and Nick is hilarious
Judy and Nick start off as enemies. She’s a cop, he’s a con, but it’s undeniable from their very first argument that they’re a perfect comedic pair.
2. Judy Hopps is a role model for children and adults
Her parents told her to settle, everyone said she couldn’t do what she dreamed of, but that didn’t stop her. She never knows when to quit! It’s a great message for children who are just learning to dream and it’s a good reminder for any adult who needs a push in the right direction.
3. It speaks on many social issues in a way that movie goers will really appreciate
Zootopia touches on many different social issues that plague us as a society. Instead of pretending everyone’s friends and that everyone gets along, Zootopia shows us that differences shouldn’t divide us and what makes someone different from another should be embraced. The film does this in a way that suggests we do not need to highlight that difference, but instead makes that difference something to join us all together.
4. There’s a movie reference in almost every scene
“You come into my house on the day my daughter is to be married.” Avid movie goers can enjoy Zootopia for the references sprinkled throughout the film. These references never feel forced, but instead come across as well planned and executed excellently.
5. The movie is full of perfect puns
“We need to discuss the elephant in the room.” Puns aren’t just for kids! There’s a good pun left and right that is sure to make you giggle.
6. There’s plenty of Disney jokes and Easter eggs snuck in
If you’re a Disney lover, you’re going to be over the moon with how many little Easter eggs Zootopia has.
7. Most importantly, Zootopia is a movie that teaches you that you can find friends in the most unexpected people
Judy is a bunny, Nick is a fox. According to “biology”, they shouldn’t get along, but you’ll find out that they truly were meant to be friends (and maybe more)!
