Ben Affleck‘s drama/thriller Argo and Sacha Baron Cohen‘s The Dictator are among four high-profile films whose release dates have shifted in the past 24 hours.
The movement of Argo — based on the rescue of six U.S. diplomats during the Iranian Revolution (and directed by and starring Affeck) — from Sept. 14 to Oct. 12 is most notable, since it places the film firmly in so-called awards season as opposed to the post-summer wasteland that is September. Argo replaces The Gangster Squad, which stars Ryan Gosling and Sean Penn and is now due sometime “between September and December.”
The Dictator, meanwhile, the Cohen-starring (and already controversially marketed) satire, has essentially ceded its original release date of May 11 to Tim Burton‘s Goth-opera Dark Shadows, thus preventing a showdown between the two. It will now hit theaters May 16, a Wednesday devoid of any other premieres.
Finally, Ender’s Game, considered by many to be the Next Big Young Adult Adaptation, has been pushed back almost three-quarters of a year, from March 13, 2013, to Nov. 1, 2013, just three weeks before the release of the Hunger Games sequel, Catching Fire.
