Robert Downey Jr. Leaving ‘Gravity?’

Robert Downey JrAnother potential shake up with Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity. First he had Natalie Portman attached to star. That was awesome; she’s a great actress. Then she dropped out, which was kind of a bummer. Word then broke that Sandra Bullock had replaced her. Not the worst possible replacement, so it was still decent news. And all along, the one sole remaining constant in this film was Robert Downey Jr. He alone kept the story afloat. You can add and subtract actresses all day, but just as long as RDJ is there, things are smooth sailing.

Except now his involvement is in question because this movie won’t start filming and RDJ is a very busy man.

Even though this is basically a one-woman movie, RDJ was supposed to have a solid supporting role as the only person the stranded woman (Bullock) was in contact with while she was in space. But with RDJ’s big movies coming up (Sherlock Holmes 2 and The Avengers, among others), finding room to film that little part has gotten less and less likely to happen.

Of course, none of this is official, but we wait with bated breath for word from on high whether RDJ commits to this movie or not.
