Robert Pattinson Alert! ‘Twilight’ Star to Play Lawrence of Arabia

Robert PattinsonThey say keeping busy is the best way to mend a broken heart, and if Robert Pattinson‘s recent workload is any indication, he’s on track to being completely over it by the time the final installment of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part Two opens.

Variety is reporting that Pattinson has been cast as T.E. Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia given his work as a British Army officer whose writing earned him international fame, and on whom the David Lean’s classic 1962 film was based upon.

The film also stars Naomi Watts, who plays Lawrence’s friend, the English writer Gertrude Bell. The film is said to discuss Bell’s incredible life story. For those unfamiliar with Bell, she wore many hats, including writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer and political attaché for the ol’ British Empire. She was also a figure in the women’s rights movement, as she was one of the first women to graduate from Oxford University. Her travels through the Middle East helped define borders for the countries of Iraq, Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

The nature of the film follows Pattinson’s pattern for a post-Twilight career that involves working extensively in a series of upcoming indie films, including Bel Ami and the just-released David Cronenberg film, Cosmopolis.

Seems like a quick trip to the desert is one way to get your mind off your cheating (ex?)-girlfriend.
