‘Rock Of Ages’ Grabs Alec Baldwin

Alec BaldwinOver the past decade Alec Baldwin has made two types of movies: really, really good ones (The Departed, The Aviator) and really, really bad ones (My Best Friend’s Girl, The Cat in the Hat). Now he’s signed on to co-star in Rock of Ages opposite Tom Cruise and Julianne Hough. Adam Shankman, the man responsible for Hairspray, The Pacifier and Bedtime Stories – not to mention the Rocky Horror Glee Episode – is directing the adaptation of the hit Broadway musical that uses ’80’s anthems to guide its narrative. Despite Shankman’s claims that if we loved Cruise in Tropic Thunder then we’ll love him in Rock of Ages, I think we know which column the film will appear in for Baldwin.

However, there is a small chance that it might not completely suck. Justin Theroux, who co-wrote the fore mentioned Cruise film, has been polishing the script with Shankman and he’s clearly capable of creating comical moments. And while Cruise will be rocking out, the Warner Bros. production will have an actual singer on board with Mary J. Blige. Rounding out the list of recognizable names in its roster is Russell Brand, who is technically still in talks to appear. So yeah, there is an outside chance that this film won’t completely blow donkey balls. Fingers crossed.
