Rosario Dawson Joins Danny Boyle’s ‘Trance’

Rosario DawsonOh, what I would give for an actress role that wasn’t a love interest.  Rosario Dawson has won the female lead role in Trance, new drama from Oscar-winner and directing chameleon Danny Boyle. Dawson will join co-stars James McAvoy (X Men: First Class) and Vincent Cassel (Eastern Promises) in the crime thriller.

The story follows an assistant at an art house (probably McAvoy) who engineers a heist, but when something goes wrong, he must contend with his criminal accomplice (probably Cassel). Dawson will play a character who “develops an unusual relationship” with the pair of men, according to the incredibly vague Deadline article. It’s probably fair to say that when they say “unusual” they mean “sexy.”

Dawson was last seen in Kevin James “comedy” The Zookeeper, and will next appear in reunion drama Ten Year, with Chris Pine.

Production on Trance begins this September, in London, but will take a hiatus so that Boyle can spend time working on the opening ceremonies for the London Summer Olympics. Trance will reportedly be more in the vein of small-scale and edgy earlier Boyle efforts like Trainspotting than his more recent high profile projects. While the premise sounds questionable, Boyle is a skillful and versatile director, and the three actors he has lined up so far are a promising bunch.
