Rufus and Martha Wainwright to celebrate late mum with U.K. Christmas show

Rufus and Martha Wainwright will honour their late mother Kate Mcgarrigle by taking their family Christmas show to London, England.
Kate, who shared her two children with fellow singer-songwriter Loudon Wainwright III, joined her family on stage at London’s Royal Albert Hall in December 2009. One month later, the star died at the age of 63 from clear-cell sarcoma – a rare form of cancer.
Now, to mark the 10th anniversary of her final concert, the pair are returning to London to perform one of their A Not Silent Night festive family gigs at the Royal Festival Hall on 6 December (19). They will also play two dates in Dublin, Ireland.
“Ten years ago our mother Kate McGarrigle played what was to be her last performance ever at the Royal Albert Hall which was one of the most beautiful and emotional nights of my life,” Rufus recalled in a press release. “Martha and I are honoured and excited to return to London to celebrate the 10th anniversary and Christmas.”
The pair will be joined by yet-to-be-announced special guests at the gig, while The Feeling frontman and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie creator Dan Gillespie Sells will act as musical director.
All proceeds from the concerts will go towards the Kate McGarrigle Fund, supporting sarcoma research and a music therapy program for cancer patients, which Martha is launching in conjunction with Stand Up To Cancer Canada.
