Not to be left out of Hollywood’s Snow White re-imagining trend, Disney has joined the fray, moving forward on its long-gestating Order of Seven. Variety reports that the project, which originated as a “Kung Fu retelling” of the Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs but has since been scrubbed of all overt references to the fairytale, has landed Saoirse Ronan as its lead. The Hanna star will play Olivia Sinclair, a “British expat in 19th century Hong Kong” who joins with outlaw warriors to battle an evil empress.
Disney plans on filling out the rest of Order of Seven cast with international players, thus boosting the expensive-sounding project’s global marketability. Michael Gracey is slated to make his directorial debut on the film. Production is slated to begin in the fall.
