Scarlett Johansson Cast in ‘Can a Song Save Your Life?’

scarlett johanssonScarlett Johansson has signed on to star in John Carney’s new production, called Can a Song Save Your Life? Carney, who wrote and directed the 2006 musically indie film, Once, spent a year and a half writing the script and after meeting Scarlett in Los Angeles to discuss her part in the film, said “she was everything you could imagine — very hot, elegant and she’s really smart” and cast her. She’ll be playing an out-of-towner singer-songwriter who “forms a passionate bond” with an ex-A&R man (according to Google, A&R is a branch of a record label OR a an interior design place). While the male lead has not been cast, there are rumors that Mark Ruffalo and Jim Carrey are being considered, and Scarlett is probably very excited to star in the film because her role requires her to sing, and this probably makes executive producer Judd Apatow very happy too, because his executive producing skills really shine best when his job is to make sure the spotlight hits the club singer’s chest just right.
