Screenwriter of ’50 Shades of Grey’ Trying to Write ‘The Little Mermaid’ Which Makes Complete Sense

Mr. Christian Grey is releasing Kelly Marcel from his red room of pain as she dives under the sea. Kelly Marcel, who has the steamy duty of adapting EL James S&M-filled novel ’50 Shades of Grey into a film, is working on a deal with director Joe Wright to rewrite the classic underwater tale ‘The Little Mermaid.’

Making the transition from writing about whips and chains to mermaids and flounder is a logical path for Marcel. Well, not really. I would love to say that there’s so many resemblances between the spanking ways of Christian Grey, the copper-haired domineer, and the swimming skills of Ariel, the little mermaid, but frankly… there really is none.

Marcel, creator of the TV series Terra Nova, is really trying to show just how versatile of a writer she is.

I suppose we can assume that after looking at Hans Christian Anderson’s fable The Little Mermaid, Marcel’s thoughts were “Look at this fable, isn’t it neat. Wouldn’t it make my screenplay collection complete?”
