Just in time for Comic-Con comes the release of the first trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man, which bares little resemblance to the previous three Spidey flicks. The reboot, courtesy of 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb, takes us back to the origins of mild-mannered Peter Parker, albeit with a darker, dare I say, Batman Begins-ish tone.
From the first moment of the trailer, you know this isn’t Sam Raimi’s original trilogy: we see wee little Peter saying goodbye to his parents, then growing up into the feral kid who was always vigorously taking notes in the back of your high school science class. Creepy, yes—but at his core, just a normal kid. Until he’s bitten by a radioactive spider, of course.
Whether people are mentally prepared for a new take on a comic book franchise that only ended four years ago is unknown, but Andrew Garfield (our new Spider-Man) looks prepared to dispel any memories you had off goofy, colorful Tobey Maguire with his pissed off, why-are-my-parents-dead-I’m-gonna-punch-you-in-da-face attitude.
If you’re ready to sail over the New York City skyline in red and blue spandex, take a look at the trailer and prepare for even more Amazing Spider-Man news when we report live this week from San Diego Comic-Con!
