Se chiudo gli occhi non sono più qui | 2014
Following his father's death, Kiko struggles to survive, now living with his passive mother and her aggressive boyfriend, Ennio. At sixteen, Kiko is forced into hard labor in Ennio's building yards and has no time for his school work. Kiko is constantly tormented by his classmates and his mother's boyfriend. His one place of refuge is an abandoned bus in a gated dump. There, Kiko hides from his world, sitting for hours talking with his father and attempting to train his body not to feel the pain. When he encounters mysterious older man, Ettore, Kiko gains a mentor he never expected but desperately needed. Ettore manages to kindle Kiko's interest in knowledge -- the two spend their time discussing the complexities of the world, delving into philosophers and writers that Kiko begins to incorporate into his own mindset. This mentorship might give Kiko the strength he needs to rebel and provide him with the courage to accept a secret that could break him entirely.
