See All the Announcements from Disney+ Day!

Disney+ marked its 2-year anniversary with the inaugural Disney+ Day! On Friday, November 12 the streaming service released a number of new titles including Home Sweet Home Alone, Under the Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett, along with other movies, episodes, and shorts.

In addition to this new content, Disney+ announced a variety of projects that will be available to stream in the coming years. Let’s dive into all of the announcements and first looks that Disney+ released in honor of its 2nd birthday!

New movies coming to Disney+

Disney+ took to Twitter to share information about a number of new movies as well as give release dates for previously announced titles.

The new animated Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie will be available to stream on Disney+ on December 3. Jeff Kinney, the author of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid book series, also revealed that the animated film Rodrick Rules hits the streaming platform sometime in 2022.

Disney+ revealed the teaser trailer for The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild. The film features Ice Age characters Buck, Crash, and Eddie and premieres on Disney+ on January 28, 2022.

The new original film Sneakerella will be available to stream on Disney+ starting February 18. The movie puts a twist on the classic fairytale, following a young aspiring sneaker designer in New York City. The film stars Chosen Jacobs, Lexi Underwood, and John Salley.

Actors Gabrielle Union and Zach Braff announced the release date for their new film Cheaper by the Dozen, which puts a twist on the 2003 movie. The new film centers around a multiracial blended family with 12 kids trying to navigate their hectic lives.

Disney+ shared that the previously announced Rescue Rangers film starring John Mulaney and Andy Samberg as Chip ‘n Dale will be released on the platform in spring 2022. The streaming service also announced the new movie Better Nate Than Ever, which subscribers can stream in spring 2022. Based on Tim Federle’s 2013 book, the movie stars Aria Brooks, Michelle Federer, Rueby Wood, Lisa Kudrow, and Joshua Bassett.

The long-awaited film Disenchanted begins streaming on Disney+ in fall 2022. It’s the sequel of the 2007 film Enchanted which was released for streaming on Disney+ Day. The platform also announced the live-action Pinocchio. The new take on the Disney classic will come in fall 2022 and star Tom Hanks, Cynthia Erivo, Luke Evans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Keegan Michael Key.

Disney+ also announced feature-length documentaries about the making of Pixar films Turning Red and Lightyear that will be available to stream in 2022!

New series coming to Disney+

Disney+ released a long list of Marvel Studios titles, both live-action and animated, that are coming soon to the streaming service: Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel (summer 2022), What If…? season 2, Echo, Spider-Man: Freshman Year, Ironheart, Agatha: House of Harkness, I Am Groot, Secret Invasion, and Marvel Zombies. Fans can view a first look at some of these new stories here.

The streaming service also shared a clip from the upcoming docuseries The Beatles: Get Back that starts streaming on Disney+ starting November 25.

Release dates were also announced for the National Geographic series Welcome to Earth starring Will Smith (Dec. 8) and Limitless with Chris Hemsworth (2022). In some throwback news, Disney+ is reviving the early-2000s Disney Channel animated series The Proud Family with its new show The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, coming to the streaming service in February 2022.

The original series Baymax!, based on the lovable character from Big Hero 6, premieres in summer 2022. According to D23, this marks Walt Disney Animation Studios’ first-ever animated series!

Disney+ announced that season 3 of their hit series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series begins streaming in 2022. There will also be 2 new series streaming in 2022 that are based on beloved Disney films: Cars on the Road and Zootopia+.

Pixar has a new series coming to the streaming platform in fall 2023 titled Win or Lose. This show follows the members of a middle school softball team as they prepare for their championship game.

Another new series is Tiana, which focuses on The Princess and the Frog character in her new role of Princess of Maldonia. The animated series X-Men ‘97 starts streaming in 2023 and opens the door to new stories from the original ‘90s television series.

Additionally, Disney+ is reformatting past stories and movies into new TV series for fans to enjoy. The Spiderwick Chronicles is an upcoming live-action series based on the bestselling books by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. The streaming platform is also reviving George Lucas’s Willow for an all-new series starring Warwick Davis, Ruby Cruz, and Erin Kellyman.
