‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ to some is a masterpiece.
The film came out 50 years ago today (Happy Birthday 2001!) and still holds up as one of the greatest sci-fi space films ever. Over the years different versions have come out, but the original hasn’t been seen in years, and especially not in theaters. Well, for a limited time, fans of this film can see the original unrestored 70mm print in theaters. The film will be exactly how it was way back when a true photochemical film recreation. No digital tracks, remastered effects, or revisional edits. Just the film, exactly how it was intended, and many fans of the film (myself included) are very excited about this event.
The restored version will have its debut May 12, 2018, at the 71st Cannes Film Festival with an introduction by famed director and 70mm lover Christopher Nolan, and will be in US theaters May 18, 2018.
