Don’t pop that champagne just yet! The movie world has been abuzz since Friday morning when reports hit the Internet claiming that 2013 Oscars host Seth MacFarlane has been asked to return to the stage for the 2014 Academy Awards. However, Hollywood.com has just confirmed that this is not the case.
Earlier this week it was announced that producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who hired MacFarlane to host this year’s show, will be returning to helm next year’s Oscars as well. Following this news, Just Jared reported late Thursday night that the 39-year-old Family Guy creator would return to host Hollywood’s biggest night after bringing in significantly higher ratings for this year’s awards.
However, an Academy spokesperson tells Hollywood.com that just because the producers are back does not mean the invitation was extended to MacFarlane as well. “Given the fact that we just confirmed Craig Zadan and Neil Meron to produce, we understand how people might speculate in that fashion, but it’s really way too early to have any idea who our host might be in 2014,” the rep says.
MacFarlane’s controversial humor ruffled a few feathers during this year’s broadcast — the now-infamous “We Saw Your Boobs” song was particularly jaw-dropping — so it will be interesting to see if The Academy eventually does ask the funnymany back to the stage. However, there’s one big catch — MacFarlane would have to agree to it first.
Back in February a fan on Twitter asked if MacFarlane would ever host The Oscars again, and the Ted creator responded with a short yet definitive answer: “No way. Lotta fun to have done it, though,” MacFarlane wrote.
Who do you think the Academy should ask to host the 2014 Oscars? Would you like to see MacFarlane back on stage?
