Shia LaBeouf To Star In ‘Horns’

Shia LaBeoufShia LaBeouf has been tapped to star in Mandalay Pictures adaptation of Joe Hill’s best-selling novel Horns, says Variety. Kevin Bunin (In Treatment) will pen the screenplay for the film and the star will be closely involved in the development of the production.

The story centers on Ig Perrish, a 26-year-old who awakens from a black-out hangover to find horns sprouting from his head. As his horns grow bigger, Ig sets out to investigate the unsolved murder of his girlfriend and the case’s connection to his cursed fate. It’s described as a love story driven by horror and vengeance and that sounds pretty freakin’ cool to me, especially since the author is the son of Stephen King which means he’s got the literary chops to scare the pants off you. If producers Peter Guber and Cathy Schulman can get the right director on board, this thing could really fly.

Attaching himself to Horns is another great move for LaBeouf, who’s been competently trying to distance himself from the kind of effects-heavy tentpoles that gave him his lucrative career. Though Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps wasn’t all that great, the young actor did get to work with another Academy Award winning director on the production and his current project, The Wettest County In The World, is possibly the most prestigious he’s been involved with to date. Continuing on this path will lead to better roles and I’m looking forward to seeing what’s next for this rising star.
