Sideways author turning book into stage musical

The book which inspired hit movie Sideways is set to be revamped as a stage musical.
Author Rex Pickett is writing an all-singing, all-dancing version of the 2004 novel, which focuses on struggling writer and wine enthusiast Miles and his engaged friend Jack as they embark on a bonding trip to wine country.
He will develop the theatre piece with composer Anthony Adams, in collaboration with EFG-Renascence Productions bosses Solomon J. LeFlore and Susan Gee.
“Sideways is an incredible film that has never really been quarried for its franchise potential,” LeFlore shares in a statement to Deadline. “We plan to rectify that. With movie-to-Broadway musical adaptations so popular, this seems a natural first step.”
Filmmaker Alexander Payne co-wrote and directed the big screen adaptation of Sideways 15 years ago, winning the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for the movie, which starred Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church.
It was also turned into a non-musical play, with a 2013 production previously staged at The La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, California due to begin a run Off Broadway in January (20).
